Kerala
is one of the most beautiful and exotic tourist destinations
of the world. The picturesque landscapes consisting
of numerous shady lagoons, lakes, estuaries, beaches,
hill stations and above of all its exceptionally beautiful
serene backwaters make Kerala a place worth visiting
at least once in your lifetime. For its immense natural
beauty, the National Geographic chose it among the 50
'Paradise Found' on earth.
The serene and tranquil backwaters of Kerala are the
biggest tourist attractions of Kerala. Traveling through
lush green vegetation in the serene and calm backwaters
is an unforgettable experience. The backwaters of Kerala
provide you ideal settings to relax and explore the
natural beauty of Kerala. Houseboats moving slowly in
the pristine and calm waters, cool refreshing air laden
with the fragrance of nature, chirping birds flying
in the sky and wild animals playing along the shores
make you feel like as if you are in a paradise.
The most exciting thing for the tourists visiting
Kerala backwaters is Kettuvallom, the traditional giant
houseboats measuring up to 80 ft in length. The houseboats
have excellent on board facilities including well-decorated
bedroom with attached toilets and a separate dining
area. On the deck of the houseboat you can rest at ease
at night and enjoy the beautiful view of the starry
sky and explore the verdant and beautiful countryside
during the day. While traveling on a houseboat, see
the green lush countryside, swaying coconut palm trees
and emerald fields.
Kerala is abundant in backwaters and almost every
district of Kerala is gifted with scenic backwaters
stretches. The largest backwater stretch here is the
Vembanad Lake, which flows through districts of Alappuzha,
Kottayam and Kochi and drains into the Arabian Sea near
the Kochi port. The Ashtamudi Lake (means lakes with
eight arms), which covers a large part of Kollam district
in the south, is the second largest backwater stretch
in the state and regarded as the gateway to the Kerala
backwaters. The most popular backwaters destinations
in Kerala include Kumarakom backwaters, Alappuzha backwaters,
Kochi backwaters, Kollam backwaters, Kozhikode backwaters,
Trivandrum backwaters, Kottayam backwaters and many
many more like them.
